Hackathons at Franklin Templeton—hands-on events involving teams from various locations and business units—create a fun and inspiring environment where individuals collaborate to design solutions to challenges in a short amount of time.
During a recent event, hackers from Dublin, California and Hyderabad, India participated in a fun, festive, non-work environment for 48 hours. Cool music, games, a relaxation room, late night pizza, energy drinks, balloon animals and sunrise yoga were some of the amenities that helped teams pitch experimental, sometimes unconventional, ideas in a creative environment.
A new crowdsourcing tool allows Franklin Templeton to harness the energy and ideas of employees from all levels of the organization - to gather, refine, implement and track great ideas.
The firm plans to initiate a dozen or so campaigns within the first year of the tool’s implementation, assess results and lessons learned, and then continue to ramp up. Frequently these early campaigns yield significant corporate impact and give the organization a foundation to build upon.
FT teams watched the documentary “AlphaGo” and discussed how the movie relates to the artificial intelligence (AI) work done by our new FT Random Forest team.
“A challenge with any large organization is being able to communicate broadly about activities that are going on that tie into big initiatives like innovation and AI. Showing this film and connecting its theme engaged viewers in a topic that is disrupting our industry, tied it to work being done at FTI, and how AI and machine learning could be a game changers for us.”

Involved events connect our employees with co-workers and community members. Volunteer project leaders suggest events and tap into the enthusiasm and energy of our global workforce to make a difference throughout the year.
Annually we host "Impact Days," which unites employees around the world in a month of community service.
To support your commitment to service, we offer employees one paid day per year to volunteer in the community, either through Involved or to fulfill a personal volunteer interest.
Our employees generously give their time and talents to their favorite charitable organizations and we match donations of financial support and reward volunteering hours with additional charitable donations.
During our global month of service, we served the communities where we live and work. Partnering with local organizations, our team volunteered their time and talents to help 82charity partners and 133 service projects across 25 offices worldwide.
